Day 11 – Laugh out loud in public which forces one person to turn around and stare

Posted by wheatbites on January 11, 2010

I love to laugh… HA HA HA HA. Loud and long and clear, and the more i laugh… HE HE HE HE. The more i’m a merrier me.

This challenge actually made me smile and laugh to myself on my way home today!

I was having a bit of FiRaChaMo blues today, as i came to the realisation that no one is actually reading it. However, i have come to the conclusion… that is ok. I am doing this for me (and the possible enjoyment of others), but mainly for me – and to get anything out of it. It is not about the blog post i write each day, or the photos i take, it is about doing something outside my comfort zone that i would not normally do. This realization came back to me today as i was explaining to my colleague the craziness of last years FiRaChaMo and showed her the website. If i only convert one person during this whole month – well, then that is ok for me.

So, today’s challenge… after i left the office, i got on the bus and was sitting there contemplating how i would approach a realistic laugh without actually witnessing something which was funny. It also crossed my mind, that if i laughed to early into the bus trip then i would have to sit there for the rest of the trip as the girl who laughed too loud. It made me think back to a plane trip from London to New York where i watched a Birtish comedy about a viking re-enactment group and i was literally laughing out loud with my head phones on – i couldn’t help it, it was funny! Though with my headphones on, i didn’t actually realise how loud i was laughing – and people ACTUALLY turned around and looked at me oddly. Oh well – it didn’t seem to deter me as i then moved onto Aussie comedy – The Chaser (just had an thought – i might start watching season one of that again very shortly).

Anyhow, where was i again… on the bus… so i was reaching my stop and as i got off there were a group of three girls getting on, so i reached for my phone and pretended to read a message and gave a bit of a grunt laugh out loud. No one looked. I did have a tiny chuckle to myself at the laugh that came out of month – what type of fake laugh was that, maybe i need to make it a bit more genuine.

As i reached the next corner, there were about 6 people around and i gave out a loud giggle which slowly reached a higher pitch like a horse saying “neigh”. Once again, not a strange look at all. Ok, i was almost at the shops, so i tried one more time, i reached for my phone – thought of something funny and then chuckled loudly – then i got it – middle aged women looked right up and stared at me! I had to stare at her as well, as otherwise i would have never known that she was staring at me.

For the rest of the way home, i was smiling and laughing to myself – amused of the social construction which does not allow for people to laugh out loud for no particular reason.

hehehehehehe

hahahahahaha
